Magnesium Deficiency Common in Menopause

New research findings add weight to existing evidence that magnesium deficiency in menopausal women is common and highlights the importance of controlling and monitoring this important nutrient, Dr Ruth Hadfield PhD reports.

The research, conducted at the University of Granada, Spain, included 78 healthy postmenopausal women and found 23% had significantly low plasma levels of magnesium and 72% had low erythrocyte magnesium levels. Furthermore, in 36% of post-menopausal women, magnesium intake was insufficient (1).
