Antibiotics Awareness Week

November 17 – November 23, 2014

Antibiotic Awareness Week in Australia is part of a global initiative to raise awareness of antibiotic resistance and promote the responsible use of antibiotics. All health services and hospitals are encouraged to participate in Antibiotic Awareness Week. During Antibiotic Awareness Week the Commission is working with key partners from human health, animal health and agriculture to raise awareness of the problem of antibiotic resistance. Antibiotic Awareness Week is supported by the Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases, the Australian Society for Antimicrobials, the Australian College of Infection Prevention and Control and the Society of Hospital Pharmacists Australia.

As part of the Commission’s 2014 campaign “No action today, no cure tomorrow”, all health professionals are encouraged to learn more about the problem of antibiotic resistance and the actions they can take to help address this problems, starting with seven actions to improve antibiotic prescribing and use.
