Most of the burden of asthma disease among people under 45 years is disability with the associated impacts on earning capacity and years of life prematurely lost.

This is expressed as disability adjusted life years (DALYs). Standardised measurements of parameters have contributed to a better understanding of the global burden of disease due to asthma.
