Top Concerns for Australian Pharmacy Students

A Study of 833 pharmacy students from 19 universities has found graduate oversupply, discount model pharmacies and low wages are the top concerns for undergraduate pharmacy students in the country for the fourth year running.

The National Australian Pharmacy Students’ Association’s (NAPSA) National Pharmacy Student Survey also found 77% of students would like to experience rural university placements, with 85% saying they would be more willing to commit to
such a placement if further funding were available. NAPSA president Sam Turner said the results were of “great concern”
to the industry, which needed to address the perception or issues around these concerns. The survey also found that mental health and pharmacy business management were areas students believed their degrees were still
missing. NAPSA industrial affairs committee chair Kieran Ferguson said the upcoming congress had provided further education in these areas.
