Pharmacy of the Year 2017 - Application Extended

The value of entering the Pharmacy Guild’s Pharmacy of the Year competition cannot be overemphasised, as recently highlighted by Hannah Mann of Kimberley Pharmacy Services which has pharmacies in Broome, Derby and Fitzroy.

Ms Mann’s Broome pharmacy won the 2015 Guild Pharmacy of the Year award however, even without that top accolade, she said the process of just entering the competition was an eye-opener for her business.

Ms Mann said pharmacies thinking of putting in an application should be aware that it is not an overly time-consuming process. She said putting in an application was educational for the pharmacy and she encouraged pharmacies to enter the competition.

“What I really liked about preparing our application was that it made me think about all the services we provide, not just the ones that we engage in day-to-day. It made us more aware of the breadth and depth of our services” she said.

“Even though all pharmacies are very busy, once you start the process you recognise that this is a very worthwhile exercise. And it doesn’t take too long once you get the process underway,” she said.

Ms Mann said the most stressful, but nonetheless very rewarding, part of the competition was the site visit by the judges in the final round.

“The site visit made us quite anxious but again it was really rewarding, in that we were able to showcase our pharmacy’s strengths and we all learned so much from the feedback,” Ms Mann said.

To help more pharmacies benefit from the process, applications for the Pharmacy of the Year 2018 have been extended until midnight on Monday 2 October 2017.
