The Benefits of Niacin & Lovastatin

Niacin and Lovastatin taken in combination has shown to be effective in the treatment of dyslipidemia - ie abnormal amounts of lipids in the blood. There have been isolated reports of rhabmyolosis in 3 separate patients taking both lovastatin and niacin concomitantly; however, the American Food and Drug Administration have approved a new fixed-dose combination of niacin-ER/lovastatin. They report that the safety of the combined agent have been proven to be similar to either component used alone or in combination for management of hyperlipidemia and mixed dyslipidemia. Customers should be monitored for any signs of unexplained muscle pain, tenderness or weakness and statin doses may require adjustment if necessary.
